‘In terms of characterization, Schoeman has done an exceptional job to make the characters come alive. Readers will definitely care about them, and the emotions are narrated well to make anyone feel the joy, laughter, sorrow, and fear that the characters have to go through – especially the protagonist, Isabel.’
-Isabel, Five Star Review By Lit Amri, Readers’ Favorite Book Review
Everything about Isabel has been a remarkable learning experience for me. From editing, to book design, to working with publishers and people all over the book community; learning about marketing, and time management. (Time management is actually really important. How can you market your published book, while getting your next book ready for print, while writing your next book? Wow. Hello importance-of-time-management).
So far, Vienna has benefited from being second to Isabel. Though, we’re still in the most important and longest phase of publishing: editing. I have done the re-writing I wished to do and used the ‘Find’ tool in MS Word to look for commonly misspelled words.
There’s a part in the story where Vienna has to sing. However, somewhere along the way, I’d lost the end to the song and have to re-write it. I had to re-decide how I wanted to poem she has to sing to be structured, making a visit to http://www.shadowpoetry.com/ to help me out.
And I still have to write the song.
The next thing I do? See, this is something that I do now as I write. I do it as soon as I finish a chapter. (I haven’t edited any of the six books that I’ve written – I just wrote them until I reached the end and was like, “Yeah!” Little did I know that there’s much more to the process than reaching the end of a book).
So, the second thing I do is feed the manuscript through a list of free online editing websites that I’ve collected and love.
Some helpful sites:
Some editing sites you can check out:
Ones I haven’t tried:
If you know of any others, let me know. I love finding new sites that might benefit any kind of writing.
Right now Vienna is still going through this stage. I don’t feed the manuscript through all these sites. When I’m confident with the manuscript, then it will move on to the next stage of my editing process.
